Water in the Desert is excited to continue our Subsidized Space Program!

Submit a request to join SSP

WitD offers Subsidized Time and Space in the Waterline Studio and Headwaters Theater to artists, organizers, healers, and anyone who might find the space useful.

In an effort to address inequity, we prioritize folx who exist at the intersections of 2 or more of the following communities: Black, Indigenous, People of Color, Disabled, Immigrant, Trans, Elder, Queer, and Low Income.

This offering is for One-time, Short-term, or Long-term use of the Waterline Studio &/or the Headwaters Theater through the end of 2023. Our Subsidized Space Program is a sliding-scale model:

  • Long-term usage rate of $50-$100 a month - consistent with our current programming, this comes out to $2 - $4 per hour for 6 hours per week to use the studio and/or theater

  • One-time / Short-term usage rate of $10 per hour for space needs within a 1-2 week period (including self-produced events and workshops)

  • If either of these options is not accessible to you, please reach out so we can work with you

Submissions are rolling. After submitting a request, if you qualify we will reach out to set up a 15-minute interview with members of the WitD pod. You will be asked to sign an accountability agreement if brought into the program. Once you sign the agreement, you will be given access to on-boarding videos, and a self-scheduling calendar (for Long-term users).
This process can take anywhere from 2-8 weeks.

The Headwaters Theater and Waterline Studio has no staff on site, and we are available only during office hours (Thur 2-5pm pst, and infrequent email checks throughout the week) or in the case of an emergency.

Accessibility: Videos and live meetings are provided with closed captioning. Studio and theater are wheelchair accessible and have restrooms that are ADA-compliant. We welcome any feedback on ways we can improve accessibility.

Additional information: If you want to use the space for public events, we ask that you notify us. If you are generating income, we suggest that you donate a percentage back to the program. Use of the tech booth in the Theater must be requested, staffing is your responsibility, and events must be self-produced. We ask folx to clean up after themselves, respect the space and each other, and self-navigate COVID. You can use our Slack channel to communicate with other folx using the space and attend seasonal paid group meetings.

If you are interested in this program, please submit your request with this form and we will be in touch as soon as possible.
